Miklos Legrady Hanging out, cottage weekend, north of Montreal, 1970

As an exhibition in the annual CONTACT Photography Festival, With Us at Every Age: Selected Animal Photographs from the Mira Godard Research Centre, Ryerson University explores human-animal relationships through photography. From our excited first encounters in childhood to quiet companionship in old age, these relationships are dynamic and broad in their scope. The contexts in which we encounter different animals throughout our lives form the nature that such relationships assume: as companions, as consumption, as commodities, and as workers. Comprised of twenty-seven images from seventeen photographers, this exhibition showcases the photography of Phil Bergerson, Michel Lambeth, Dorothea Lange, Wendy Snyder MacNeil, Miklos Legrady, and Gabor Szilasi.
The works range from the 1900s to recent, contemporary images, and offers a reflection on the complex and often contradictory perspectives that shape our outlook and our varied experiences with animals.

With Us At Every Age: Selected Animal Photographs from the Mira Godard Research Centre, Ryerson University has been curated and installed by twenty-one students in the 2011 Curation & Exhibitions class under the direction of Professor David Harris. This exhibition has been made possible through The Howard and Carole Tanenbaum Family Foundation and Ryerson University's School of Image Arts.
