A New Wave of Classical Painting

Aristotelian Classicism as expressed in the Renaissance was followed by Kant and Hegel’s German Idealism, from which we get today’s postmodernism. This movement was best expressed in Sol LeWitt’s legendary “Sentences on Conceptual Art” and “Paragraphs on Conceptual Art”, which paraphrased Kant and Hegel. LeWitt wrote that in art the idea was dominant, while the execution was but perfunctory. LeWitt changed his mind on seeing perfunctory executions of his own work.
Sol Lewitt realised that everyone has ideas, but few have the ability:
it is the execution which turns an idea into a work of art.
